History of Greensburg Rotary Club
The Greensburg Rotary Club was chartered in 1920 with 25 members. The first club president was Frank Donnell. In the year 1920, when the Greensburg Rotary Club was founded, the interurban made 12 round trips between Indianapolis and Greensburg while 24 passenger trains departed daily from here in all directions.
Over the years, membership was fairly stable at 20-30 members until the Rotary International changed policy in 1987 to allow women members. Since then, Greensburg Rotary Club has grown steadily into a very gender-diverse and profession-diverse club of 50+ active members. A 50th anniversary (diamond) was celebrated by the club in 1975. Our club has been the home club for two district governors (William Scheidler - president 1937-38, District Governor 1938- 39 and Jerry Fox ( District Governor - 1998- 1999 ). Additionally, the club has sponsored exchange students for many years, and boasts two Rotary Scholar winner (Dr. Joe Oesterling) and Jim Stuhrenburg.
